ACCREDITED EXERCISE PHYSIOLOGIST & FOUNDER

Meet Elyshia

Warm, adaptable and genuinely person-centred support.

I’m an independent mobile Accredited Exercise Physiologist based in Wollert, supporting adults across Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

My focus is helping people living with disability, psychosocial disability, mental health conditions and complex support needs find movement that feels achievable, meaningful and connected to everyday life.

Before founding Kooka Support Services, I worked as an inpatient multidisciplinary Allied Health Assistant across Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech Pathology, Dietetics and Social Work.

I then worked as an Exercise Physiologist in inpatient subacute rehabilitation and community NDIS settings. These roles strengthened my understanding of complex health needs, multidisciplinary care and the importance of adapting therapy to each person’s life and environment.

This experience also helps me recognise when someone may benefit from input from another health professional and support appropriate onward referrals.

A neuro-affirming approach

As a neurodivergent person with ADHD, I bring both professional knowledge and lived understanding to my work. I recognise that attention, communication, motivation, sensory preferences and energy can look different for everyone.

My approach is neuro-affirming: differences are respected rather than treated as problems to be fixed. Sessions can be adapted around the way each person communicates, learns, regulates and engages best—without assumptions or judgement.

This lived perspective informs my approach while recognising that every person’s experience of neurodivergence is their own.

The Story Behind Kooka

An elderly man and a young woman smiling and taking a selfie together indoors.

Kooka Support Services was inspired by my grandfather — one of the most genuine, hardworking, and compassionate people I know.

He earned the nickname “Kooka” because his laugh sounds just like a kookaburra. The name also reflects the kindness, warmth and joy he brings wherever he goes, along with a lifelong commitment to helping others and making people feel welcomed and included.

I wanted those same values to shape my work: warmth, authenticity, connection and positivity, alongside professional Exercise Physiology support.

Support that starts with the person

Kooka Support Services is currently accepting referrals for adults across Melbourne’s northern suburbs.
